TechTalk
TechTalk Seminars in Columbus and Indiana
GLBA will offer two practical seminars on technology solutions for bookstores this year, one in Columbus, Ohio, on May 1[CANCELLED], the other in Indianapolis, Indiana, on June 18. Admission is free to members. Lunch will be provided. Both sites have free wireless Internet access, so bring you laptop (if you’re lucky enough to have one) and follow along on-line.
Session Description
The session will be divided into two parts. The morning session will cover blogging and social networking sites like MySpace and FaceBook, as well as literary networking sites like GoodReads. We’ll show you how to set up your accounts and connect to the network of “friends” that make these sites so interesting and powerful. By the end of the morning, you could have posted your first blog, created your own MySpace page, and made your first posts to GoodReads.
The afternoon session will be devoted to creating email newsletters, specifically Constant Contact. In it, you’ll learn how to use Constant Contact’s “wizards” to create a template for your newsletter; how to import text and graphics, how to add and delete names and email addresses, and how to use some of the administrative tools to monitor how the newsletter is being received. By the time you leave, you should have the knowledge and confidence to send your first email newsletter.
